Monk's pepper – The guardian of female balance

When the riverbeds ("torrents") of the Tramuntana dry up in midsummer, one plant often continues to glow in a vibrant purple: chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus). It is a rare treasure of our island's nature—so rare that it is now strictly protected.

This is where our philosophy at FARTÀRITX is most evident: we do not take, we preserve. Because wild stocks are protected, we do not harvest them. Instead, we have given monk's pepper a new home in our fields.

Cultivated with respect for nature

We grow it right on the finca, in the same rough soil and under the same wild climate that it loves. This allows us to protect the natural resources in the valleys while ensuring that our plants can develop their full natural power—sustainably and in harmony with the laws of the island.

The secret of the name

Its name tells a curious story. In the Middle Ages, monks used the pungent seeds as a substitute for spices ("chastity lamb") in the hope of curbing their worldly desires. Today we know that the plant does not suppress, it regulates. What was once intended to curb is now understood as a powerful catalyst for harmony.

The Wild Pharmacy: Gentle Hormone Balance

Monk's pepper is considered the "conductor" of the hormonal system. It does not supply artificial hormones, but gently influences the pituitary gland (hypophysis) and reminds the body of its natural rhythm.

It is a powerful ally, especially for women:

  • Cycle Balance: Helps harmonize irregular cycles.

  • PMS companion: It relieves tension in the days leading up to your period.

  • Menopause: It has a balancing effect during times of change.

The Ritual

Monk's pepper teaches us patience. It does not work overnight, but slowly builds up its power over weeks. It is an invitation to listen to your own body again and give it time to regain its own balance.
