Rosemary – The dew of the sea and the memory of the island

A single breath is enough to transport you to the south. The resinous, clear scent of rosemary is the olfactory soundtrack of the Tramuntana. But behind this well-known culinary herb lies one of the most potent medicinal plants in the Mediterranean.

Its Latin name, Rosmarinus officinalis, sounds like a poem: "dew of the sea." And indeed, it prefers to grow where it can hear the sound of the waves. However, on Fartàritx, in the rugged heights of the mountains, it develops a special intensity. In order to survive here, it concentrates its essential oils into a power that far exceeds what we know from the garden.

A herb of remembrance and loyalty

Since ancient times, rosemary has been considered the plant of the mind. Greek scholars wore rosemary wreaths to strengthen their memory during exams—an effect that modern science now explains as improved blood circulation in the brain. For the Romans, it was a symbol of fidelity and love, indispensable at weddings. In the Middle Ages, it became a protective shield: it was burned in houses and hospital wards to purify the air and drive away "evil spirits" (or bacteria).

Rooted in the soul of Mallorca

Rosemary is sacred on our island. In Mallorcan culture, it is inextricably linked to the festival of Sant Antoni, the patron saint of animals. During the big January celebrations, rosemary branches are blessed and given to pets and livestock to protect them from illness and misfortune.

It also plays a leading role in the "Rondallas Mallorquinas," the island's ancient fairy tales. The story of "La Flor Romanial" tells of the miraculous healing power of a rare rosemary flower that is capable of healing even the most severe wounds. For us, this is more than just a fairy tale—it is a testament to the ancient knowledge that lies dormant in these mountains.

Ignite the fire within your body

When used, rosemary acts like a spark. It is a "morning herb" that gets things moving.

  • Focus & clarity: When your head feels heavy and your concentration is waning, the scent of rosemary acts like a breath of fresh air. It boosts cognitive performance and awakens the mind.
  • Warmth & blood circulation: Rosemary warms you up. It is traditionally used to gently raise low blood pressure and warm cold hands or feet. People with existing high blood pressure should consult their doctor or therapist before taking it regularly to clarify whether rosemary is suitable for them.
  • Digestion & detoxification: Its bitter compounds support the liver and gallbladder. A tea or extract after a meal helps to prevent bloating and harmonize digestion.
  • Protective shield: Its powerful antioxidants (such as rosmarinic acid) help the body defend itself against free radicals and have anti-inflammatory properties—ideal for joints and muscles.

The wild power of the rocks

For our elixirs and hydrolates, we only use plants that have grown in their natural rhythm. Our rosemary is not fertilized; it is nourished by the sun and the rock. You can feel this in every drop: it is pure, condensed life energy.
