Bitter is a flavor we have almost forgotten. In our sweet modern world, it hardly has a place anymore. But in the wild fields of Fartàritx, there is a herb that reminds us that healing often begins where comfort ends: wormwood (Artemisia absinthium).
With its silvery-gray leaves, it looks inconspicuous, but it has explosive power within it. Wormwood is one of the most bitter herbs in the world—and that is precisely what makes it so valuable.
A wake-up call for digestion
"What tastes bitter in the mouth is good for the stomach." This old saying perfectly describes wormwood. As soon as the bitter substances (such as absinthin) touch the tongue, they send a signal to the whole body: "Wake up!"
- The engine starts: the stomach, liver, and gallbladder immediately begin to produce digestive juices. The feeling of fullness after a heavy meal disappears, and fat digestion runs at full speed.
- Detoxification: It is considered the great "cleansing herb." It supports the liver in its work and helps the body get rid of waste products.
- Cleansing: Traditionally, wormwood was used to rid the intestines of unwanted guests (parasites) and restore balance to the intestinal flora.
The Legend of the Green Fairy
In the 19th century, wormwood was the main ingredient inabsinthe, the "green fairy." Artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Oscar Wilde valued it as a source of inspiration. But its history goes back much further: even the Egyptian pharaohs used it as medicine, and Hippocrates prescribed it for almost every ailment. It has always been both a luxury food and a powerful medicine.
A warm companion for women
In traditional gynecology, wormwood has a firm place as a "warmer."
- Cycle & Balance: It is considered to promote blood circulation and relieve cramps. In cases of irregular cycles or painful periods, it is used to relieve congestion and harmonize flow.
- Warmth: It brings energy to the lower abdomen and dispels the cold.
The essence of Fartàritx
Our wormwood grows under the intense sun of Mallorca. The island's climate ensures that it develops a particularly high concentration of essential oils and bitter compounds. It is not a gentle caress for the palate, but an honest, powerful elixir for anyone who wants to feel and strengthen their body.
